Jamie, EL Editor says:

We contacted Enviro Products after receiving J.Thompson's comment and here's what they told us about their product: "[Our bottles are made of] 304 food-grade stainless steel and are solid stainless with no lining." Then we did a little more digging. According to the World's Healthiest Foods Web site (www.whfoods.com): "Because the alloy (combination of metals used) in stainless steel is more stable than other materials, you are less likely to have any leaching, of any metal, including nickel. An exception would be stainless steel that has been damaged by harsh scouring with an abrasive material like steel wool. Provided that you take good care of your stainless steel and keep the surfaces intact, we believe you are making an excellent choice with this material." And according to Kleen Kanteen, which also offers water bottles made of 304 stainless steel: "Nickel is a naturally abundant element found in the earth’s crust, soil and ocean floor. It is generally resistant to corrosion and is therefore used to make metal alloys such as stainless steel. The most common reaction to handling nickel is a skin rash at the site of contact. Less frequently, those sensitive to nickel have asthma attacks after inhaling dust containing nickel. Klean Kanteens are constructed of high quality, sanitary grade 304 stainless steel. 304 has a low nickel content and is preferred by breweries and dairies." One other thing: Enviro Products also noted that when they tested for traces of lead in their stainless-steel bottles, levels were undetectable. We hope this answers your question.
