The Circle
By Laura Day (Tarcher/Putnam, 2001)
Many of us grow up with the idea that “wishful thinking” is a sign of delusion,
but we’d do well to question that thought. Recent brain research shows that our
neurons can’t tell the difference between real and imagined experiences;
they register frequent-use patterns of perception that influence our subsequent
perception. In other words, we see what we expect to see. So when you allow
yourself a good juicy daydream about something you really want, it might be
just the support your brain needs to bust its ruts and head down the neural
highway toward that goal. In The Circle, Laura Day (author of the best-selling
Practical Intuition) offers a step-by-step guide to manifesting your deepest
wishes — especially those you might be likely to dismiss as too pie-in-the-sky.
Wishing initiates the state of alignment she describes as “the circle” (think
Law of Attraction), that state of flow where things line up to support what
you’re seeking. The book teaches about the circle’s nine essential elements,
like “synchronicity” and “intentionality,” and includes a number of easy
visioning and journaling exercises to help you relax and focus. If you tend to
get paralyzed by doubt or distraction when trying to move forward, the orderly
steps presented here offer great guidance for staying gracefully on track.
