Sense of Direction
Every once in a whil , we come up with a slogan or motto that helps
articulate our organization’s philosophy. Earlier this year, we
introduced
one such slogan: “Grow Forward.”
By Bahram Akradi |
August 2001 |
It‘s a thought-provoking phrase, one that
can mean different things to different people. To me, it is a reminder for
each of us to live consciously and with intent — to develop toward goals of
our own choosing. There’s no shortage of messages out there telling us to go
faster, get stronger, to better ourselves, to acquire and achieve more. But
striving to grow and develop without a clear sense of direction often
takes us to dissatisfying places. To borrow Stephen Covey’s metaphor, we
end up climbing the ladder faster, only to get to the top and find it is
leaning against the wrong wall. To create a more meaningful and
satisfying life, we each have to choose paths that energize and inspire
us. In essence, we have to define our own “forward” and then grow, with
determination and energy, in that direction. Here at Life Time Fitness,
we’re making “Grow Forward” a guiding principle in everything we do,
including our magazine. That’s why we’re changing Experience Life — to
better support the priorities, spirit and mission of Life Time Fitness and to
better serve its diverse, growing membership.
Life Time Fitness is definitely
about health and fitness, but it’s also about quality of life and creating a
strong community of healthy, energized individuals. Above all, it’s about
steadfastly delivering the best possible services, programs and products
available, and providing them at the best possible value. To this end, we
want to offer you a magazine that reflects our commitment to excellence — one
that helps you live happily and well, one that supports you in making
empowered choices about your health and well-being.
In this and future
issues, you’ll notice we’re giving the magazine a fresh new look and more
interesting, engaging content. We also want the magazine to help you get the
most out of your membership, and out of all the resources available to
you through Life Time Fitness. Flip through this issue and you’ll find
everything from Russian strength-building secrets to important insights about
live foods, an in-depth look at the nature of passion, and more. In the new
Life Zone section, you’ll also find information about “what’s going on in our
world,” including the latest club news, resources and events. We hope you’ll
watch for more changes in the coming months and let us know what you think.
